Put A Knob On It

Saturday, December 01, 2007

Moving habits is an experimental installation where by knobs are placed on almost everything. Normal convention solicits us to pull on anything with a knob just we’ve been conditioned to do so. But what happens when pulling on a knob yields unexpected surprises?

It takes just one movement for us to open or close doors, draw the curtains, shift chairs, operate light switches and use drawers. In this project the drawers behave slightly different than we’re used to. Some open to different directions, others stay attached to the wall and their body moves instead. Some drawers stay open while others don’t do anything at all. Spending just 10 minutes in a space like that can challenge what you consider to be normal, turning perceptions upside down. Intriguing yes but purposeful? No.
